Musandam is part of Oman. UAE residents need a 26B visa (5 OMR). Citizens of 70+ countries get visa on arrival. We can arrange your visa in advance.

Currency

Omani Rial (OMR). 1 OMR ≈ $2.60 USD ≈ 9.5 AED. ATMs available in Khasab town. Many places accept UAE Dirhams but at a poor rate. Cards accepted at hotels.

Weather

Oct–Apr: 25–32°C (best season). May–Sep: 35–45°C (hot but cheaper). Water is warm year-round (24–32°C). Rain is extremely rare.

Language

Arabic is official. English is widely understood in tourism. Some locals speak Kumzari (a unique local language). Hindi/Urdu also common.

Connectivity

Omantel & Ooredoo networks. Get an Omani SIM at the border (3 OMR). WiFi at hotels. No signal in remote fjords — download offline maps.

Electricity

Same as UK/UAE — Type G plugs, 240V. If coming from US/Europe, you may need an adapter.

Myths vs Reality

Myth: "Khasab is dangerous because it's near Iran"

Reality: Khasab is one of the safest places in the Middle East. Oman has near-zero crime rates and is incredibly welcoming to tourists.

Myth: "You need a 4x4 to reach Khasab"

Reality: The road from the border to Khasab is fully paved and a regular car can handle it. A 4x4 is only needed for off-road mountain excursions.

Myth: "There's nothing to do in Khasab"

Reality: Khasab offers 15+ activities including dhow cruises, scuba diving, mountain safaris, kayaking, fishing, cultural visits, and more.

Myth: "It's only for UAE residents"

Reality: Khasab welcomes visitors from everywhere. Citizens of 70+ countries can enter with visa on arrival or pre-arranged visa.

Is Khasab safe for tourists?
Yes, extremely safe. Oman is consistently ranked one of the safest countries in the world. Khasab has virtually zero tourist crime. Women travelling alone report feeling very safe. The local people are genuinely friendly and welcoming.
How do I get to Khasab from Dubai?
Drive via E311 → RAK → Tibat border (2.5–3 hrs) or book our private transfer. There are no commercial flights from Dubai to Khasab. RAK is the closest UAE city (60 km / 1 hr). See our transport page for all options.
What should I wear in Khasab?
Light, breathable clothing. Cover shoulders and knees in town and villages out of respect. Swimwear is fine on boats and at beaches. Bring a modest outfit for visiting the fort or souk. Sun hat and sunglasses are essential.
Do I need travel insurance?
While not mandatory, we strongly recommend travel insurance that covers water activities and mountain trips. Medical facilities in Khasab are basic — for serious issues, you'd be transferred to a UAE hospital. Most standard travel policies cover Oman.
Can I use my credit card in Khasab?
Hotels and the Atana Resort accept cards. Most small shops, cafés, and tour operators prefer cash (OMR). There are ATMs in Khasab town. Bring some OMR cash or withdraw at the border/Khasab ATM.
