How far is Ras Al Khaimah from Khasab?

Khasab is approximately 60 km from Ras Al Khaimah city centre. The drive takes 1 to 1.5 hours depending on border wait times. RAK is the closest major UAE city to Musandam, making it the preferred starting point.

Do I need a visa at the Tibat border?

Yes. UAE residents need a 26B visa which we can pre-arrange for you. Citizens of 70+ countries (including GCC, EU, UK, US, Australia) can get visa on arrival at the Tibat border post. The visa costs 5 OMR and allows 10 days stay.

Can I take a rental car from RAK to Khasab?

Most UAE rental companies do NOT allow their vehicles to cross into Oman. You would need to arrange Oman insurance at the border and check your rental agreement. We recommend using our private transfer service instead.

What is the Tibat border road like?

The road from Tibat to Khasab is a well-paved mountain road with steep drops and sharp switchbacks. It is one of the most scenic drives in the Arabian Peninsula. Drive carefully, especially in fog or rain. The road is safe with normal caution.
