Strategic Location

Kumzar sits at one of the most strategic points in the world - at the entrance to the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz. On clear days, you can see the coast of Iran just 2 kilometers away.

Historically, this location made Kumzar a vital trading post. Merchants from Persia, India, Africa, and Arabia all passed through these waters, which explains the mixed heritage of the Kumzari people and language.

The village is built in a narrow valley between towering limestone cliffs, creating a dramatic natural amphitheater. The only flat land is along the waterfront, where the fishing boats are moored.

Distances

  • From Khasab Port ~50 km by boat
  • Travel Time (dhow) 2-3 hours
  • Travel Time (speedboat) 1-1.5 hours
