The overland route covers approximately 480 km and takes around 5 hours, passing through the UAE (requiring transit visas), so most Muscat travellers strongly prefer flying.

If flying, Oman Air's morning departures (typically around 7:30 AM) land you in Khasab by 8:00 AM, perfectly timed for morning tours. For the rare overland driver, leave Muscat by 3:00 AM to reach Khasab by 8:00 AM. The flight is so convenient and affordable (from 25 OMR one-way) that driving is only justified if you are bringing camping or diving equipment that won't fit in checked luggage.
